A new beast (2001 crew-cab)

I did it, brought it home tonite, bought the one with the shift kit in it.
I drove a couple others and this one is probably the best, my first drive it seemed to shift hard but after driving others I determined it is ok after all, shifts seem very positive especially 2-3rd. Tranny temps were around 160-170 coming home. Oh, build date on door sticker is 6-'01 should be forged rods.

Congrats Bill. Post up some pics, we would love to see your new truck.
Trans temps look good to me.

Awesome congrats... Not sure on the forged rod deal around 2000 is the cutoff, you might want to look for sure. But then again it probably doesn't matter anyways.

We need some pictures

Hey bud congrats!

I have an 01 F350 CC, it is freaking awesome! I use to have the ext cab, but I don't think I would ever get rid of the CC. It is just so roomy!

Good luck with the new truck bud. Hope it is good to you.

As far as the rods go, there is not a cut and dry date. They used them on and off until 2002 and then after that all 2002 trucks had the powdered rods. The only way to know is to check your engine number against the list of engines with PMRs. That list is floating around here somewhere.

Did that shift kit take care of the mechanical diode?

It is very rare to find them in the 2001 and 2002 trucks. I was lucky enough to have them in mine. Mine was built in August of 2000.

The only real way to check to to look through the inspection hole. I have seen trucks that were supposed to have forged rods have pmr's.

Just an FYI, and it probably really doesn't even matter to the Op. Just wanted to clarify.

That was miscommunication on my part. I meant they used PMRs on and off from 2000-2002, then switched to everyone having PMRs.

PMRs will break under high HP applications. 400HP+ and you risk breaking them. WELL beyond what I will ever be running.

Oh yeah, more than I will ever have as well, as I run all stock. I have found vehicles just last longer the less one does to them.

What was the build date for the '01s that had the transmission Mechanical diode in? I am not worried about that anymore as I have a BTS, but you might check the date on your trans.
