I got a 93 f150 with the 4.9l. And yester day I went for a ride and as I was going down the highway I would let off the gas and really feel the truck slow down. So then I look at brake pedal and it is half way to the floor with the brakes engaged. I pull into gas station to check it out and I can't get the pedal to come up, but when I use my foot the pedal can basically touch the dash. I checked lines they are OK. So I stopped at my mehanice just down the road to make an appointment and as I was driving home I didn't want to burn up the brakes I pulled off to the side of the road jump out pop the hood and disconnected the vaccum hose to the brake booster and then I pulled it off of brakes released. Could this be a brake booster problem? I'm just curious so I can fix it if its just that. Right now I'm driving the truck with the vaccum hlse plugged and basically now power brakes
It's not that hard to replace, you don't even have to disconnect the hydraulic lines, just unbolt the master cyl, and let it lay against the inner fender or other junk.. (ha ha) then go under the dash and disconnect the linkage then remove the 4 bolts holding the booster... Then reverse the process to install...
I may have missed some small items but this is just the jest of the install..
There "should" be instructions in with a new or reman booster that explains any adjustments needed.. If you go with a used you're on your own!! LOL
Check the booster for signs of brake fluid. A small leak from the back of my master cylinder on my 83 F150 caused a vacuum leak in my booster so I replaced them both.
