pcv hose removal?
pcv hose removal?
i was wanting to know if there was a way for me to put a KnN filter or spectra filter straight onto the pcv valve and do away with the hoses coming off of it without throwing any engine codes. I just think there is to much going on under my hood and would like to simplify it. btw if it matter i hhave the 5.4L.
ITs your truck, but if you want a good opinion, leave the stock air filter and PVC valve on the truck. More than adequate and does a very good job. Most aftermarket gismos just lighten your wallet and produce minimal benifits.
The PCV helps keep goo from building up inside the engine. Keeping it hooked up correctly is the only way it's going to work correctly.
WGAF what things look like under the hood. It's how it works that counts.

The crank case is a closed system with PCM monitoring.
Without the PCV, combustion by-products build up and sludge the inside up.
As well, the blowby from combustion would pressurize the crankcase and can cause oil leaks if totally sealed up.
Left open with just a vent filter provided no circulation to remove the by-products.
The modern motor is a complete design package and does not lend it's self very well to show and eye appeal clean up.
