The starter went out on my 95 F150. The belly of this truck is absolutely covered with corrosion (it was a northern Illinois truck, quite a few winters under its belt.), and both bolts holding the starter on were so corroded that even a 6-point socket rounded them off. I went and bought a set of bolt removal sockets and they bit into the bolt heads and gave me a little hope, just to completely round them off. After that the heads are so rounded the sockets that are supposed to be designed for that won't grab anywhere at all. The starter is in a very difficult location to get tools into so I'm lost to say the least. Any ideas or tips would be appreciated.
can you get a die grinder in there to cut the heads of or can you get a welder in there to weld on some nuts ? you may have to pull some other stuff off to make room to work , this stuff is what brings the thinking outside of the box in to play !
I tried that, can't really get a hammer in there with enough room to get a good swing. I found a portable welder so I may be making some progress if I can get it in the next couple days. A very easy, non time consuming repair has turned into hours or frustration and getting nowhere. lol
