On the way home from work my 97 f350 started missing and running bad above 2k rpm. The injectors all test good and I don't have any CEL's but I noticed that the oil pressure gauge drops like mad as the engine starts to miss and smoke.
This morning I changed the filter and oil only to still have the problem.
What gives? What is next? I have a low pressure pump sitting on a shelf that I could put in.
Fordman427 the fuel pressure is good and I am going by the dash gaugefor oil pressure. Everything is good at idle all the problems show up at 1500rpm. I backed up a very steep hill to get oil on the front of the engine (thought maybe the pickup tube cracked or has a hole) and the pressure seemed to stabilize but the truck smoked and wouldn't get over 2000 rpm. The smoke was so thick it was hard to see the end of the hood!
Recently the high pressure oil lines ruptured and cut the fuel lines. I had new lines built as well as a cross over. It ran ok but it was never quite right and I am wondering if the IPR shorted causing the oil pressure to spike blow some orings off one of the injectors.
I felt like I was approaching the tip of an iceberg when the HPOP lines ruptured! Now I am trying to decide where to put money and how much. A friend that is a mechanic told me to plan on spending 5g
