fuel gauge help

I've got an 86 f250 with dual tanks previous owner cut fuel lines now only front tank works. My question is I've got no fuel gauge now I've chased it back to the yellow and white wire from cluster and a blue wire from tank. I jumped them and it works but it never says the samething. With a test light I checked yellow and white wire but its not a steady current it flashes. Does anyone know a way to make it work like this

Fuel gauge wiring

I have an '86 f250 with only the front tank also, and no tank motor. I believe the blue/white and yellow/white wires need to be connected-and I have the same issue-mine always reads E, but not below. The flashing is right-and it should vary in ohms from 10-90 or something...if you can get the sending unit out carefully (it can be done under the tank if you use a chunk of wood or brass drift to punch off the holding ring and then carefully lift it out...) The rheostat inside has a little tang that rubs on a circuit board and thus registers the varying ohms...Mine reads right but still doesn't make the gauge work right...Hope this helps some....is your tank switch motor out also?
