Question Alternator Output

FINALLY had to replace my original battery (after 7 years and 7 months!!!); got another MotorCraft in hopes I can get lotsa use out of it also. Anyway, after completely charging the new battery I checked the alternator output and got 13.32 volts; that seems low but it's keeping the battery at 12.65 volts so maybe I've got no problem. Any thoughts...........?

FWIW - I always open the hood after pulling into the garage to let heat out, hoping that will extend the life of all the rubber parts under the hood. Maybe that helped the original battery also.

Did you check the output in amperage? 130 amp output is what they are supposed to give.

Try turning on your head lights for 10 mintues, motor off.. Then start the motor and see what the battery input (alternator voltage) is. Normally you would expect the voltage to be over 14 votls, but if your battery has a real good charge, it could be lower.. See how it does for a week. ---that being said, if you alternator has over 150,000 miles, its time to consider a replacement. Brushes and commutator will be wearing thin.
