Turbo Removal Technique

I'm removing the turbo as part of a head gasket job and I'm having some trouble locating the items referenced in the Ford diagrams.

As part of the removal, it says to loosen the EGR marmon clamp, but I'm unable to see this clamp. Is it down behind the engine?

It also says to remove the rear turbo mounting bolt, but I'm unable to locate such a bolt, either visually, or by sliding my hand under the exhaust pipe. What's the best way to locate and remove it?

The passenger side turbo mount bolt came out easily, but the driver side doesn't want to budge. I've removed the ECM (I think, on top of the driver side valve cover) to allow for more access, but I'm just not seeing any clean way to break that driver side bolt free. Any suggestions are welcome. The last thing I want to do is round it over. Assuming I do, or I break it off, what's the procedure for in that case?

Thanks!

First off get a 6 point for the turbo bolts they can be stuck GOOOD
PB Blaster helps
they are heat cooked in there PIA
if they get rounded there is a remover

use a new2 turbo hardware kit when you go back together

The marmon clamps are the clamps that hold the exhaust pipe to the turbo on both up and down pipes you have 2

and 1 more marmon on the egr cooler its down under the intake towards the back

marmon clamps is just the claMPs for exhaust pipe you need a deep 11mm IIRC

no need to mess with the egr clamp till the turbo is off. you do need to pull the one off for the y-pipe.
I have found spraying the clamps with wd40 prior to removing the them is the best way.
for 03 style turbos the clamp will slide on to the y-pipe and 04 up it slides to the turbo for removal as the clamp must be installed / removed with the turbo its very hard to spread it over the ypipe.
to remove the left (drivers side) bolts if its stuck can be doen with an impact gun, 10" extension and a 10mm impact wobble.
you fail to state what year the engine is. 03/04 the bolt is vertical on the back of the turbo pedistel. very hard to see.
04 late and up is it horazontal and can be seen if you use a flash light looking from the right side at the back of the pedistel.

Yeah... this site's garage thing didn't work for me. It's an 2005 F350.

I'll see if I can dig up a 10mm wobbler tomorrow.

The 10mm wobbler and 10" extension worked perfectly once I removed the ECM mount and snaked the extension under the wiring harness ontop of the intake. It helped that I'd soaked both side and rear bolts with PB last night.

A six inch extension with a 6pt 10mm going over top of the turbo exhaust output accessed from the passenger side made it possible to remove the rear bolt.

A prybar under the passenger side mount popped it free of the driver side exhaust intake port so it could be removed. The wiring harness immediately in front of the turbo should all be disconnected from their respective connectors and moved aside, or else removing it is likely to snag something.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!

Just keep women and children a minimum of 500' away from the work area... The first time is a PITA but a learning process.
