whats the trick to get the turbo to pop off. I have the 2 bolts removed, the Y pipe and the down pipe clamps off. do you have to pry up on the turbo? Not really sure, just know that I don't want to break it because of stupidity. Any help would be appreciated
the one in the back goes straight down into the turbo stand. very hard to see but not too hard to find with your fingers. on the back right(drivers) side of the turbo .
6" extention and 10 mm socket works well.
The two bolts on the front a relatively easy to get to. For the 1 on the back, it is best reached by reaching behind the down pipe with a 1/4" drive ratchet and 10 mm socket. Unfortunately, you have zero and I mean zero leverage to pull on the ratchet. After 20 min of getting angry trying, I finally stepped backed to rethink my strategy. You guys might laught at me for this one, but it worked. I cut a piece of rope clothes line about 4 feet long and wrapped it around the end of my 1/4" drive ratchet. I then ran it under the down pipe and over the pass side fender where I was standing, keeping tension of the line. From there, I was able to pull on the rope with ease and the bolt immediately broke loose. I know, sounds ghetto but it works. You could be there all day trying to get enough torque on a 1/4 ratchet with nothing but the tips of your fingers. My 3/8" ratchet would not fit. Unfortunately getting mad didn't help, so I had to improvise!!!
I soaked mine with pb blaster and let sit over night. They came right out. The back bolt I soaked a paper towel w/pb blaster and sit in on the bolt..No room to get the can in there to spray. I also used a 1/4' ratchet and 10mm 6pt socket
ok so you know the tools. and ya the turbo bolts well mine had two the driver side and the rear dont know what happened to the passenger one. but anyways. pop both the exhaust and y pipe off. now when trying to get the turbo off. make sure you have the oil inlet line off. when you pull it off there is a oil return line that goes to the bottom of the turbo. so use something to pry the turbo to kinga loosen it and then try to pull straight up. it is really tough but try to pop it off first. kinda heavy around 30lbs
thanks for all the help got it off by taking off both the Y pipe and the down pipe. got a 3/8 drive ratchet in their easily. thanks again for all the replies
Only about a 5 minute job..... 4 minutes to throw a fit and scatter all your tools, then one minute to post on FTE. Yep, that back bolt can be a real pain and you owe these guys a beer.......
