I think so. You have to pull the 2.3 to remove the pan, so why not the 3.0...? You could check that the PCV valve is working properly, and pulling a slight vacuum on the rocker arm cover where the tube leading from the air cleaner is connected. If the PCV won't pull a vacuum, slight, at idle, after a few minutes, then the PCV isn't working or you have blowby.
The other thing you can do is to tighten all the pan bolts to the specified torqe. You will have to drop the starter, I think.
The gasket is made of a, likely synthetic, rubber that will stay flexible seemingly forever. If it is installed with the bottom of the block or the pan gasket surface oily, it can ooze out of place and allow leakage. You may luck out with a little effort.

My pan is rusted and leaking a bit and I'm in no hurry to replace it. I was looking at alldata and you don't actually have to remove the engine (so it says) but lift it as far as possible, still the labor time is over 9 hrs. So how bad a leak is it?
