Oil pan issues

I took my truck into this place because I was stranded and didn't really have any other choice. Upon them working on it they claimed the dipstick holder in the pan all of a sudden fell off. On their own they decide to drop the pan and try to fix it. The o ring gasket was swelled from the oil and couldn't be reused, somehow the dipstick pieces got damaged also. they then call me and tell me all of this, and I get pretty nasty with them. I then go over there and settle down some but I am still pissed. Last few nights when I got off in the morning I saw something under the truck. Well the pan is leaking something fierce, and I put a gallon of oil in and it needs another 2 quarts. What the main point of my story is I am trying to find what to seal this pan to the block with. I know some guys on the forum have replaced their pan gaskets and such and am wondering what they used. Any help will be appreciated.

Wish I could help you out with what to use, I would think the Black RTV would be suitable, thats what i used on my rear differential cover. My oil dipstick tube is leaking where it enters the pan. I'm not looking forward to fixing that. From what I've read so far it's risky and not easy.
Somebody will chime in soon, good luck.
Don't you hate it when mechanics mess your truck up.

Pretty sure you need to lift the engine to replace that pan gasket if thats what your asking. But your sure its not coming out the dipstick flange going to the pan? Pretty common leak .. Fixed mine myself in an hour with new oring..

When you say the dipstick holder fell out, did they try to tighten the big nut on the dipstick flange and then the flange fell into the pan? How did they fish that out? If thats what your saying.

Sorry to hear about this...

When I replaced my pan there was no oring or oil pan gasket to speak of. The pan was glued to the block with this really really really tuff gray/white cauking. Only oring I found on the block was for the oil dip stick flange.

That stuff in the tube is the stickiest, hardest curing cuaking ive ever seen.
$15 a tube, bought 2 used 1 1/2 cuz I didnt want it leaking for another 10years.

Goodluck!

Sorry I have been sleeping all day, time to go to work now. Yes they took the pan off and jacked the engine up some to get inside of the pan. I know its not leaking from the flange because the opposite side is covered with oil also. Guess it looks like they need to find some silicone to reseal the pan with. Thanks for the replies. I hate it when I cant work on it myself.

Ok I called IH and then they sent me to Ford since they ran out of this stuff, said their truck would be there today. The number for the silicone is TA 31 it was pretty expensive at 25 a tube. Thanks for the help.

Whats really sad here, is the common leak from the dipstick tube adapter can rather easily be repaired without ever removing the pan. We have done this several times with a kit from International and have yet to remove a pan from any of our 7 T444E/7.3s.

Im with you. Easy repair with patience. I actually replaced the oring that leaks on the flange itself. Took alittle over an hour. Like new.I should write it up someday and post it.Its unfortunate what happened to this guy.

Which kit is that. the one in the pic above. How do you do that without removing the pan, or are you talkign about resealing the dipstock tube.

I shoudl go to the ih dealer and order some of that silicone, the ford dealer up here charged a friend of mine like 75 dollars for a tube of that stuff I think.

You can do this repair by ordering the oring for 4 bucks from ford. And you wont end up with a ugly duckling of a mess on the outside of the flange. But that kits an option too. I just replaced the oring which is the problem cause i didnt want the mess on outside of pan. Pm me and I can tell you how to do it . Takes an hour, two tops.
