S/D to MAF?

I would like to upgrade the current S/D to an MAF system. I have a 1995 f150 4.9L f/i with the e4od. I understand that the 96' series came with MAF stock and had the upgraded OBDII system. Now i have heard of some people being able to upgrade the system. But had a few questions i would like answered.

-Should i keep OBDI and add the MAF?
-or Should i find a 96' take out the ECU and the MAF system and add that to mine?

-What's the cost effective one? and It would also be easier to read the codes on the truck with the OBDII or should i stay away from that system?

- If i did get the ECU from the 96' with OBDII would it bolt right up and hook right into everything?

What is the reason for doing this? tuneability? performance? if it was for that i would opt for a megasquirt stand alone set up.
