questions on installing quick struts

Hey guys, I am thinking I am in need of new front shocks. I am trying to weigh the options. I have done a lot a work to my truck myself(brakes all around), and am better than average with mechanical things, but am not confident in dealing with the suspension parts and trying to compress a spring and that kinda stuff. So I am considering taking my truck to the local shop and having them just install new shocks, but I am also thinking about possibly putting on a quick strut (rancho or monroe) if I can do it myself. Here's my question, on the quick strut, is it as simple as jacking up and taking the old strut out or does the upper ball joint and upper control arm have to be loosened/removed? Just trying to get an idea of the complexity of the job. I don't want to try it if I don't think I can do it. Thanks for the response!

I believe you have to release the upper control arm.

As for the compression, check into Rancho because I read last week that their new QuickLift system now comes with springs, which is something Monroe and Bilstein don't offer. I'm sure there's more cost there, but it would be truly bolt on.

Thanks McDavis. Actually monroe does offer a quickstrut application. If I were to do quickstruts though I would probably do the rancho because I would like to lift the front end about 1.5 inches. I wouldn't do the full 2.5 in. lift because when I tow I'd like to keep the truck close to level. Anyway, I know the rancho is adjustable so basically you can easily adjust your amount of front lift as needed(that's what they claim anyway). But like I said, I would like to know from someone whose done it the exact steps involved, then I would know if I want to try it or not.

edit: I guess I misunderstood the website, I see the adjustment is for ride stiffness, the lift height in 2.5 inches.

Yeah, I'm interested into raising the front end a bit as well. Looks like this Rancho offer one height size 2.5" lift for 4wd. Other one is 1.75" for 2wd. Like bigunit54, I want just 1.5" lift due to my towing the travel trailer, and I want to avoid drooping rear while towing. Wondering if this 2wd model can be used on 4x4 truck giving only 1.75" lift that I want.
I really like the adjustable as I had 9000xl on my 2002, those rancho shocks provide much improved ride based on my experience.
