Limited Use Question

I have a great truck with only 60k on it, It's a 2005 6.0 PSD dully that was purchased to pull a 14k pound 5th wheel. It only pulls the trailer 4 or 5 times a year short distances (50 miles) until I retire in a year or so. I also drive it to work about twice a month at a round trip of about 30 miles. It stays tucked away in the garage other than that. Am I doing any harm to it by not driving enough? I have a small car I drive most of the time for cost savings. What do you think?

I only put about 2000 on mine per year and it's been fine for years. Just romp on it a bit when you do take it out. I would think the biggest problem is rust in the turbo.

My truck is a part-timer as well. I drive it to work every week or two (50 mile round trip) and haven't had any issues. High Binder makes a good point about the turbo. I would be leery about letting my truck sit for more than 2 weeks although I have heard of others who have let their truck sit for extended time periods with no ill effects.

PowerService Diesel Fuel Supplement +CetaneBoost (aka Diesel Kleen in the white bottle, not the grey one) has a water dispersant in it.

Your garage is a GREAT help to you.... it helps keep the moisture (rust) out! Be sure to get a few wide open throttle runs in when you do pull it out of the garage. Your beast doesn't like to be babied!

I've been running the grey one, guess I need to swap over to white in the summer.

Yeah, it's listed specifically on their website for the white bottle, but not the grey one. The grey one is supposed to be loaded up with more detergents and lube additives, while the white has anti-gel and water dispersant. I use white in the winter and grey the rest of the year(which apparently their website also says to do), I figure it balances out.

Thank You guys. I feel a lot better. Oh, I don't use white or grey but will get some white as recommended. BUT, I am using Ford's Cetane Booster & Performance Improver. Keep using it w/ the white bottle? Need your advice on this too. This is my first diesel as you can tell. Thanks again.

id just use diesel kleen, seems like over kill to use both, since diesel kleen has a cetane booster in it.
