The 705 code is a transmission range selector error.
It's the selector switch on the side of the trans that changes circuit connections with the shiftier position.
This switch signals the computer so it knows what to do with the transmission on a Binary signal lead basis because the computer is a digital operation.
Check the plugup at the transmission for seating dirt, water etc.
Check the shifter tube for a loose lever mounting under the dash.
Switch may be loose or need position adjustment or is becoming faulty.
Good luck.

"Check the shifter tube for a loose lever mounting under the dash."

the gear position indicator tends to be a little off center i never thought anything about it, but could this be a cause ?

The gear position indicator has nothing to do with it. My 03 showed 2nd gear for Drive and Reverse for Park... there is an adjustment wheel under the dash for the indicator cable, if you lay on your back and look up you will see it.
