hey guys new to this so pardon me if i screw up or something. got a 4.9 six with some bad exhaust right after the first cat here my question. how would this motor sound with a purple horny muffler heres a vid a one on a 230 chevy and was wondering if it would sound similar
my plan was to take off the second cat and put these on 6 inches after the first cat then run a tailpipe with a turndown 2 to 2 and a half feet. i am trying to avoid a ricey sound though. thnx in advance
Had a friend with '65 Falcon/200ci with split manifold and duals. Had a mild cam and it sounds like a 5.0 mustang running down the road. Turbo mufflers, not glasspacks.
It may end up sounding like a piece of agricultural equipment.
My '92 Bronco had the 300, I had 3 different exhaust systems before I found the one that sounded best.
I had a magnaflow cat, into a Y-Pipe, and duals out the rear. It sounded pretty damn good, especially when under load. It had a nice growl, was not excessively loud, and had no hint of clapping or riceyness.
The fact is, it's never going to sound like a V8, but you can make it sound pretty good.
no mufflers just the cat. right now the exhaust is rusted off and its not that loud but it sounds like a rice banger then i watch a whole bunch of youtube vids and i see guys putting money into it and having it end up sounding just like mine.
sadly i know it will never sound like an 8
I have a burnt out Thrush 24in glass pack on mine. It has a really deep growl to it but it does sound like a beefed up rice burner. Put a muffler on it and call it good.
Plus the videos with the cameras behind or by the exhaust don't give the true sound. Same goes for if they leave them in park, the vehicles done completely different when in park vs drive.
Here is mine the day after I installed the new thrush a year ago. It basicly was a muffler so all you here is engine noise. I will make another one tomorrow when I get out of school.
I put a Flow Master on mine with a four inch resonator tip if I remember correctly (Its been a minute since I put it on), and it does sound pretty good. It has a nice deep rumble to it and not at all like a Civic.

how restrictive is the factory cat the first one that is and all the exhuast before that. the exhaust pipe where the o2 sensor is at seems quite small. how would i go upon replacing it or is it not even worth is. there is a walker y pipe on summit that looks larger for more flow but its 66 dollars and i dont know if it is worth it or not
click on the 6cy. mustang vortex one. suppose it would sound way different on a 4.9 being they really only share the number of cylinders they have. so far i like that one the best
