So I just bought a 2001 F350 XLT. It has power locks but did not come with remotes. Just keys. Am I able to get remotes? How do I check to see if my truck has a remote control lock mechanism?
do you have another Ford? or a buddy who will let you borrow his remote for a few minutes?
Find someone with another remote. Enter programming mode (see owners manual) and add the remote.
Test it. If it works, log onto eBay. I bought 3 remotes for my truck last month for about $8 shipped each. 1 for me, 1 for wife, 1 is a spare on the keyrack.
As far as borrowing a remote, you won't erase thier programming. When you program the remote to a vehicle, you are teaching the truck PCM to recognize the frequency of the remote. So the borrowed remote will still work on their vehicle...and your truck until you enter the programming mode again and the PCM "forgets" it
btw, you don't need the remote from another Superduty. Pretty much any Ford from 2000-2006 will do the trick.
2007+ vehicles are different and their remotes won't work on 2000-2006 vehicles...but the 2000-2006 vehicle remotes will work on any 2000-2012 Ford. Weird huh?
