How do I program a factory ordered keyless remote? I helped my neighbor find a truck afew months back, and she only was given one remote, so they ordered her another one and (being that I am married and both my wife and I need a remote and she is a single Mom and doesn't necessarily need both) she gave me the new one to say thank you...$50! =)
So anyway, I have the original - how do I use that to program this?
I believe there is a plug somewhere near the glove compartment that you need to short together. I don't have specifics for a Ford truck. I do have the instructions for programming a remote on a Lincoln. I'll find them and leave a message in a few days.
The following is for a Lincoln but should work with a Ford.
To program (or reprogram) keyless entry remote transmitters into the electronic door lock control processor, perform the following steps:
1.Turn ignition switch to RUN or ACC position and momentarily short the two terminals of the Program Connector (J4)(a two-pin connector - gray w/yellow stripe and white w/yellow stripe). All doors should lock then unlock. Remove the shorting pin.
2.Press any button on keyless entry remote transmitter. All doors should lock then unlock.
3.Repeat step 2 to program additional keyless entry remote transmitters into the electronic door lock control processor (up to four keyless entry remote transmitters maximum)
4.Turn ignition switch OFF. All doors should lock then unlock.
5.Check operation.
NOTE:The electronic door lock control processor erases all previous keyless entry remote transmitters from memory when the keyless entry remote transmitters are programmed or re-programmed.
the 99 Expedition book says that the remote must be reprogrammed at the dealer, in fact it says to reprogram a new remote, ALL remotes must be reprogrammed. Not sure if this is applicable to your year truck or not.
