Strange Brake Hose?
Strange Brake Hose?
Hi,
I've got a problem with a new replacement rubber brake hose that I purchased: The bend in the metal line that goes to the caliper is not the same as on the original part in my truck. I've included some pictures to illustrate my point. The truck is a '90 bronco, 4wd, 5.8 liter. The part is the front-right(psngr) brake hose. The replacement part num is BH132318. First pic is the new hose, second pic is the old hose, third is a comparison:
New Hose:

Old Hose:

Comparison:

The part was hard to find, and unavailable locally at autozone, orielly, advance, or napa. So, I had to resort to ordering the part online, where it was only available in a few places, among them amazon and rock auto. Now that I've examined all the photos of the parts available online, I've found they all have a similar bend, which, unfortunately, is different from the one on my vehicle.
This presents me with a dilemma: I think the part will physically fit, despite the different bend, but it looks like the resulting position of the steel line will be more vulnerable to damage. I'm hesitant to try bending the steel line; I have a feeling it would either crimp or crack under the force. As these seem to be the only replacement parts available I figure someone else out there has probably had the same experience. Did you use the part despite the bend, rebend it yourself, or somehow find a part with the right bend?
On a sidenote, in addition to buying a front-right(psngr) brake hose, as pictured above, I also purchased a left front brake hose ( part num: BH132319 ), which surprisingly came with a dual brake line fitting, which will need to have one port plugged, and has the same non-compliant bend. Again, this seem to be the only variety available. Does anyone know why this one has two openings?
Dual holes:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Tim

Stainless Braided Front Axle Brake Lines
These look to be bent more then what you got. You could get a tube bender and maybe bend the one you got some more. I don't think that the line will be in any real danger how its made tho.
The Graveyard part also has the dual fitting, without going to look at my truck I would venture to say that the Front lines on your truck are T-d together possibly. I have 4 wheel ABS, so I know mine prolly doesnt look like that....
