I have a 2000 F-150, 4X4, 5.4, with 89K miles. It has K&N air, 3" mod. exhaust, 1" intake riser, new plugs, and now I want to purchase a chip for mileage /power. So many choices! Suggestions?
I pull a 20' boat at times and will be adding short bed camper soon. I should probably as what gears would be best for this application. I have the 3.56 limited slip.
Don't buy a chip! There junk.
Buy a hand held tuner to program your computer for better performance.
There's a lot of them out there. Not sure what one is best.
If you can get one capable of having custom tunes on it, that would be good. And get a custom tune.
Edge has a great one for our trucks. You can use it with or without the dash control unit. I work for a performance shop, and Edges have proven themselves on our dyno over and over. They aren't cheap at about $400, but my boss loves his on his 04 f150 Fx4. He is running 35" nitto grapplers and 3:73 gears. He averages about 13mpg city with his heavy foot, but has gotten 18-20 highway many times. I will have one on my 2000 Harley F150 ASAP.
