I recently received a letter from Ford telling me that certain superduty trucks with certain VINs are being recalled! They say that the ECU need to be reprogrammed. They don't get into any details. Why do they want to reprogram the ECU- for what? better emissions and less fuel for my F250? I don't want to let Ford touch any of my trucks computer tables. Has anyone had this done to their truck or at least received the same recall notice? Im thinking about not getting it done, but then they won't stand by the trucks warranty. Let me know your guys opinions here. By the way, my truck is a 2002 F-250 SD 2wd V10, gibson exhaust, K&N filter.
If you're talking about the 02E20 recall this is what Ford tells us.......
REASON FOR THIS RECALL
In some of the affected vehicles, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) may contain software that does not comply with Federal emission standards. Vehicles operating with this PCM software will not set required diagnostic trouble codes when rich or lean air/fuel mixture thresholds are exceeded.
Ford regularly comes up with new calibrations for the PCMs. Most of the time it is for a small driveability problem or an emissions concern. Some of them have been to address a diagnostic concern like this recall is for. There is a new calibration recall for 2003 F150s to cure a hard start. Most of the calibration updates are pretty minor. I have reprogrammed lots of PCMs and have never had any complaints afterwards.
