I see a few major themes
1. Honda oddysey and crossovers with 3500lb tow ratinf are actually fine pulling 28-34ft airstreams weighing 7500-10000lbs.
2. Anything over a 1/2 ton will ride so rough it will beat the **** out of anything you tow.
3. A 250 is a horrible tow vehicle a 350 (same thing arent they ) is even worse and a 450 is suicide.
I thought yall might get a kick out of these guys.
Common thread is "i just bought a 8000lb camper what is best tow vehicle?"
Amswer: vw toureg.

Reason: Explained above
I want the Jag to tow an unloaded gooseneck I'd give the guy the keys to my truck if he could get it from Denver to Breckenridge without dying (or using a tow truck).
Thank god. I thought i was the crazy one . I posted asking if the guy running the shop would sign an acceptance of liability for going over manufacturer ratings for accidents/vehicle damage. My account was suspended and am under review; do you think its becuase he is a "supporting" (payoff) member of that site?
Just like magazines that give a product an a+ rating then two pages later is a full page color add.
Not a surprise, I see rangers and F150's towing things they shouldn't be anywhere near in this area. Seeing more and more small SUV's doing the same. Last wreck I saw happen was a Taurus station wagon pulling a 16' Uhaul trailer, he was going down a slight hill and the trailer started to push the car and he ended up off the road spinning 540*, some how nothing flipped or came unhooked.
I love this a s s hat:
"There is nothing "illegal" about exceeding manufacturer weight "ratings" since there are no Federal or State guidelines to follow"
Tell that to the DOT guy that puts you on a set of scales and tells you you aren't going anywhere after he weighs these idiots. I guess they don't understand it isn't about "if" you can pull it, it is all about can you stop it and otherwise control the load, the geniuses towing those with commuter cars have no control over them. Hope they all stay on the East coast, if they come out here with that they will kill a lot of people.
I am not one to stick to strict GCVWR I think they can be stretched some, but by this Airstream sites logic I could tow 60K+ GCVW with my F450 and laugh at the cops as they try and pull me over.
The Jag pulling the airstream is nothing, scroll to page 3 and look at the SHO towing what looks like at least a 20'er.
If a guy really wanted to have some fun tell them you are buying a Fiesta and see how big of a trailer they will claim you can pull.

I was even respectful about it. Included a link to the Towing Laws in USA and Canada, links to GCWR and GVWR definitions, and then added info about the GCWR for several of their cars and the trailers wet weights.
wonder where the police are when this crap rolls through? it obviously isn't safe, and in many many states is illegal
The origional poster on there is a dealer and claims the chrysler minivans are the best tow vehicles around for 8000lbs
Well I guess I can just go ahead and get rid of my 350 then, we'll just use my wife's Town and Country. And to think I was going to waste my money on the overkill of a 350. Guess I better order that Class III hitch for the van! I wonder if I can pull a 25' trailer with a class I hitch, they are cheaper. And if that fails I'll just pull it with my Nissan, it has a 2,000 lbs tow rating, but what's another 6,000 going to hurt? I am putting new brakes on it after all.
Seriously though, I see some pretty stupid stuff on my way to go camping. Small SUVs pulling big travel trailers and 1/2 ton trucks pulling 30' trailers just about dragging the hitch on the ground with the front wheels looking like they are about the leave the ground. I would be the last one to not take towing seriously. My grandfather had the electric brakes go out on his 28' prowler and push his '78 Wagoneer off a cliff rolling the jeep 4 or 5 times. Both him and my grandmother were okay, but it obliterated the trailer and totaled the Jeep. My grandmother did hit her head pretty good though and was never the same after that.

Apparently you are "ill informed" because you are concerned about someone's safety.
They are correct about some of that though. GCWR is NOT actually a legally binding number, it's just a manufacturer recommendation. Basically as long as the tow vehicle isn't over its GVWR and the trailer isnt over its GVWR you are legal, regardless of what your vehicle's GCWR is. However, I would be willing to bet that some of thise tow vehicles are over their GVWR once you figure in the tongue weight of the trailer and people in the vehicle.

there is where the problem lies. These guys are yanking around 8,000 lbs and heavier vehicles and they only have about 1,000 lbs or so to play with before "overloaded"
That is a conservative 800 lbs tongue wieght alone. 2 Passengers + that 800 lbs and you are looking at 1,100 lbs before you know it. Whoops, that Wrangler 4 door and the minivan only have about 1,200 lbs before hitting GVWR
oh darn, did you need gas also? hope your Campground has water hookups, and that you dumped your gray/black water before heading out.
Its "canam rv" that sets these up. He is also a big fan of the ford escape as a tow vehicle .
And gcwr aside i dont think the can get the combo legal. The only way would be to balast the trailer towards the rear and that will put you over on the rear trailer axle/tires not to mention being even more unsafe than overloading the tow vehicle!
I ended up in a f250 becuase i was worried my 7500lb GROSS weight trailer would be pushing payload and rear axle on my expedition! But an escape is fine!!
