damn, what trailer are you yanking around?

my 08 Expy has a GCWR of 15,000 lbs and max trailer wieght of 8,950 lbs

realistically, with me/wife/kids and our crap in the Expy...that puts me at about 7,000-7,500 lbs wet weight for Expy. I could yank around a 7-8k trailer and stay within my GCWR rating....of course I do have the Superduty now for that kind of stuff. I really want to pickup a toyhauler when I get back to the Mainland

although...I can always trade my Expy for a EB powered Flex AWD and then yank around a nice 30ft trailer. The SD will give my kids Parkinsons, so it has to go

Wow!! What a bunch of morons. I don't know about other states but in Idaho if you have a passenger car or a pickup with regular plates you can only have a combined vehicle weight of 8000 lbs. If you go over by I think 4000 lbs it goes from an infraction to a misdemeanor and the fines can get pretty high.

The guy in there with the Jeep is doing it all wrong. What he really ought to do is take out his back seat and put in a fifth wheel setup. Then he could pull a 5er and a boat at the same time.

Wait....better not give them any ideas.....

There's another great post on there this morning. Someone asked about towing with a Buick Enclave and he says "There is not a strong enough off the shelf hitch receiver for this vehicle but it is easy for us to strengthen one." I wonder if they just peel of the sticker that says "DO NOT CUT, WELD, DRILL OR MODIFY THIS HITCH". I guess it doesn't occur to him that the reason no one makes a strong enough hitch is because that vehicle isn't designed to to that much weight.

Now he mentions they can "strengthen hitches"? I would LOVE to see that! Ask for pics of a "strengthened hitch".

If you are due for new tires in the near future there is some benefit to slightly changing the size when you replace them. This is not nearly as important on the Enclave as it is on some Pick-Ups and SUV's

I also wonder if he realizes that no matter how much you "strengthen" the hitch, the "frame" that the hitch bolts to on those unibody vehicles is nothing more than a few layers of sheet metal held together with some spot welds.

That IS crazy...

I removed the URL so that they don't get any free bumps from FTE for their web site's Google ranking. The more external links to their site, the higher Google pushes it up the results page. So, in view of the idiocy, I figured it was best to remove it.

Anyone looking for the original URL, do this: type in "www", "dot", "airforums" add ".com" and hit ENTER.

You have to love this response to Tylus' posts:

Indeed we disagree with you - but we're not going to scream "Who will think of the children" and ask you to stay the heck off of the road with a long-stopping-distance, rollover-prone heavy-duty truck. You can quote weight tables - or you can listen to an expert in towing who has set up 1000s of vehicles over the last 30 years.
Long-stopping-distance, rollover-prone heavy-duty-truck.

Try stopping a 10K+ trailer with a car's brakes when the trailer brakes go out. Who's going to stop quicker? Rollover-prone - if you're an idiot.

Anyway, this is another example of, well, I'm at a loss for words...

One of my favorite XKCD's... All I can add is these people scare me. Not that they do crazy things, we all have. It's that they think in their heads that there is nothing wrong, they have used math, science and logic and come to a completely insane conclusion. My faith in humanity has gone down yet again.

I love the statement about the weight distributing hitch making it all "OK"...

It's not logic. It's the opposite of logic.

Selling my 06 F350 DRW (bought for safety reasons) Gonna modify my 03 Jeep Wrangler hitch like they did on the Jeep JK. I'm only pulling an 8K toy hauler. Looks like death on wheels to me. Hope the Highway Patrol stops them before they kill other people with those rigs. With luck they'll just kill themselves. Gotta cull the herd every now and then.
