Alternator regulator problem

My 2001 has the big 215 amp alternator on it.
Recently, at idle, the lights, tailights and brake lights have started pulsing. Took it to the local auto electrician who tells me the regulator is playing up, but the real bad news is it's not adjustable and not a replaceable part in this country (Australia). Buy a new one, he says - I could buy an island in the Carribean for the money he wanted!
Question is: Is the regulator a replaceable part in the States, if so who do I talk to? If not who do you recommend for a re-built unit.
2nd question: If I do nothing will the fluctuating voltage stuff up the pcm and idm?
Thanks in advance

Welcome to FTE Mate.
Here is a American supplier;
FORD ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE REGULATORS
They offer international shipping.
I have in the past been a middle man accepting parts and transshipping them overseas.

I looked at the website you referenced, and none of the regulators listed are for the specific alternator the O/P has on his truck.

What he has is the single-alternator from an ambulance package, and is a pretty rare installation. I believe it is a Mitsubishi unit, Lester No. 12075, and I understand his reference to an island!

Unless he has a specific need for that much additional charging capability, if it were me, I'd retrofit the stock 115-amp alternator. It may also then need a slightly shorter belt (but not sure it's required). Then,I'd be done with it. It would be a LOT cheaper than going through his currently-installed unit.

That QuickStart site has the complete alternator at $1196 US. See what he means about that island....?

I did, however, find this:
http://cn.oemol.com/oem/en_oem_detai...Regulator.html

To the O/P: Does that look anything like the piece?

Springerpop - nice work! Looking in the back of the alternator I can see two of those things, an upper and lower with 2 separate connectors- I'm guessing that's the regulator?
You're right about me not needing an alternator big enough to supply a small town - I don't even run spot lights. I would rather keep the alternator I have if the regulators can be replaced, if not I might try an source a low mileage 2nd hand standard unit here.
The price you gave for the replacement alternator was less than half what they want to charge here ( A$2300.00)
