Bypassing Security

I bought a new '11 F150 XLT 4X4. It came with 2 remote lock/unlock keys which I absolutely hate. I am not into carrying around a BIG (3.5") key in my pocket or any type of remote fob and I don't mind unlocking the door with a key. Anyway I got a smaller key at the dealer that I use now to unlock the door the old fashioned way, up close and personal. Works great but here is the kicker. When I unlock the door manually, I have 12 seconds to insert the key and start the truck before the security goes off. WTF is up with that? What if all I want to do is to retrieve something from the cab? I have to insert the key and turn the ignition on to disable the security just to gain momentary access to the cab? What a freakin PITA. Is there any way to disable this so called great idea from FORD?

You can ask the dealer if it can be disabled using their laptop and IDS, but why would you want to?

I doubt their is a DIY method to disable.

Maybe the old dog needs to learn new tricks? Just sayin'.

What happens if you don't insert your key into the ignition to deactivate in the time allotted? I've n ever tried this with mine as I feel the larger key is perfectly comfortable.

First, you don't need the bold type. Rude it is.

Second, if you disable the system, make sure you tell your insurance company, so they can raise your rates.

Have you looked in the owners manual to see if it has a procedure for disabling the system?

If not, check with the service department and I am sure it can be done.

And the great idea from Ford you are complaining about is in every brand of vehicle out there. I have a work vehicle that is a Chev and it does the same thing.
