Key programming issue or non chipped key
Key programming issue or non chipped key
When I bought my 02 F350 it only came with one key that was an all metal (no chip) key. The truck starts and drives. All of my research tells me that my truck should have chipped keys and should not even start without one. I ordered two chipped keys and fobs had the keys cut and went to the dealer for programming, the guy in the shop said it cannot possibly be chipped if it is running and driving without a chipped key. He also said that some of these trucks were chipped and some were not...that sounds strange/inaccurate to me. The truck did have an aftermarket security system in it when I got it but has since been removed. Did some of these trucks leave the factory without this feature? Could the security system have been bypassing this feature? I also thought that certain functions would not work without a paired key. The truck did come with one fob that partially works...it unlocks but will not lock the truck so I have to go around to all four doors and lock them manually which is getting old. Does anyone else have a truck without chipped keys or a similar issue? This is the last little kink I'm trying to straighten out on my truck and any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
I 2nd not having chipped keys on our era of Superduty's.
You can check to see if you have remote entry though.
Listen while you do these steps.
Cycle your key in ignition to on/off 8-12 times without starting the truck.
If you have remote door locks they will cycle up and down.
Then if they do cycle you just order Key Fobs from Ebay and program them.
I too only had one metal key. Did the test because I have power locks. $20 later and a few days I have remotes.

I have two new fobs just haven't tried to program them yet. I think there is something going on with my rear driver's side door I have already tried replacing the ajar switch but I suspect the mechanism is the problem now as the doors will unlock with the fob but not lock. Thanks for the replies on the keys!
PATS was an option that not many trucks got. Became standard in 08. All Excursion models had PATS.

Get on eBay and buy a set of 4 12v universal door lock actuators. I put them in my Crew cab and love them. Good and strong. $20
First I did the tinfoil mod. Somehow all 4 actuators cooked while at mechanic.

The Excursions are chipped, the trucks aren't.
