2001 Ford Escape - steering moan
I have a 2001 Ford Escape V-6 2WD. When I turn the steering wheel I hear a moan or a low squeak. This happens when the truck is moving or standing still. It doesn't seem to effect the steering.
It started about 6 months ago and lasted for about a week then just stopped on its own. Now 5 months later it has started up again and doesn't show any signs of stopping. I took it in to have a lube job but was told the grease 'ports' were sealed and it was not possible to lube it in the tradition sense.
I didn't find a relevant thread using the search function.
Could someone shed some light on what the problem might be? Or point me to a thread on the subject I might have missed? Thanks you.

Have you jacked it up, take the weight off the steering, and tried it? Or have someone turn the wheel while you listen and locate the the spot.
Also, check the fluid, you'll get a moaning if it's low.
