Is there a rebuild kit for the steering box on these trucks? Mine looks like its pouring, yes pouring out of the bottom of the gear box where the arm hooks up. These things are expensive I can tell ya that much. Everything is closed so I cant call around. Just wondering if any of you have put new seals in yours,or just replaced it. Thanks.
I replaced mine with one from red head steering.Lots of guys and gals on here have.No slop in the steering at all now.I think I paid 300-350 with core return.I dont know about rebuilding them. Most just replace..The factory box has too much play in it imho.I dont think ive read a post on fluid leaking from the box..The lines yes...Its not one of the lines?
Nope, lines are dry. Just out the shaft on the bottom. My Excursion wanders, but my truck is great yet. That's why it would like to keep the original steering box.
i replaced the seals in an older bronco (88) that i used to have...it was leaking in the exact location you are describing. it was years ago, but i remember it wasnt expensive, but took a lot of time. lasted till i sold it over a year later. dont know if that answer is the "appropriate" one, but new seals could give you a little time to save up for a new one
