First post! Welcome to the site, glad to have your participation, you will enjoy the site.
Rebuild kits for both type power assist systems are obsolete. I have found a couple of places that do re-build them, but it costs about $180.00 for just the hydro set-up. There really is nothing to the box, and since the hydraulic system takes most of the abuse, I really have never seen a worn out box, but I guess it could happen. I would be willing to bet that you could buy new bearings and seals by just removing them, and taking them to a good bearing / seal supply store. A couple of measurements for ID, and OD, and width, man you would be in like Flynn.
Most guys are getting away from this steering, due to its weight, and complexity. For highboys, or lifted trucks the 79' box with crossover steering is the best way to go. Never look back at the old junk factrory steering. Some guys like it, but the ones that do have probably never driven an early truck with really good steering.

it is the box that is worn out. I completley took it apart and there are 2 spacers beside the worm gear on the sector shaft (i think thats what its called) they are gon and the worm gear moves back and fourth on its shaft allowing a good half turn of play in the steering shaft.
I do have a 79 bronco box that is good but it mounts on the outside of the framerail whereas most of the directions for converting the old style to the new shows a box mounted on the inside of the frame. could I still use this box and just sandwich the frame between a plate of steel and the steering box?
