208 miles/131 minutes/18.5 MPG. A friend of mine did that on the highway recently.

It also seems that long term high rpm operation can accelerate the degradation of a questionable FICM.

For real, Just completed a 3k trip from WA to NH pulling a 30ft. 5th, bone stock with repair in Billings MT for a blown inter cooler, got 9 mpg average for the whole trip.
If the turbo boost gets any where near the red line it might be time to check or change the inter cooler, might be getting plugged up. Does anyone know where the boost is measured?

Bob

forgot to say it is a F250 2005 year.

Boost is measured by the MAP sensor on the intake manifold. A plugged IC would not create/show high boost numbers. MAP sensor is located on a bracket at the rear of the passenger side engine bay. You can check to see if the hose from the sensor to the intake manifold is loose, or clogged.

Fair is fair...I drive an early '04 F250 3.37LS 5R110 equipped truck. On the highway (interstate) I keep the speed at 70mph or slightly below. I roll off the stop signs/lights and roll up to them; I don't jab the brakes or pin the go pedal (except every couple of weeks for that "tune-up"). I'm running Michlin's pumped up to 60 psi; oil changes every 5k (Mystic synthetic blend 15W40) and fuel filters every 10k; OEM filters. The only thing about my truck that isn't stock is the ZooDad & no-cat. These are my numbers for the last 18 months (103 fill-ups/44k plus miles); most of those miles are empty...but there are several tanks logged with a trailer or load in the bed.

Pavement Princess (Ford F-250 Super Duty) | Fuelly

These trucks will never get Focus mileage, but with some discipline they will get better than 10 mpg. Unless fuel is so cheap where you live that you can afford to blow it out the tailpipe.

lifted on 35" tires, 90% city driving. 12.6 to 13 mpg by Lie-Meter...13.6 mpg calculated by hand. Most likely is actually almost 14 mpg though because my speedo isn't calibrated for the 35" tires
I drive fairly easy most of the time. grandpa it from lights and other stops...nice long slow-downs. Lots of traffic makes me be very careful when driving.

do try and open her up occasionally though every outing.
I've noticed that she doesn't like highway RPM's. I get better city MPG than highway MPG. Really need to get some gauges so I know what is going on.

thanks for the info Will, if the map sensor is where the turbo value is taken it could not have been a bad inter cooler.
Sounds like some are getting very good millage, I havent had the truck long enough to get any average not towing.

I do a simple calculation; gallons used divided by miles driven

on average I fill up with 26 gallons and typically go 525 miles on a tank, this equates to 20.19 MPG.

it may not be completely accurate, but it gives me an idea about that the truck is doing.

IT's a single rear with 3:73, and single turbo with auto, completely stock. And thanks for the intelligent response.

I've always divided the miles driven by gallons....gallons by miles would really kill the MPG...

Man I don't know what you guys are doing wrong. I get 17.5 mixed driving every tank. The only thing that changes that is winter fuel drops it to 15.5_16ish.
