Well, if HEUI injectors that fit the IDI heads could be found, and a HPOP system adapted, and the sensors & computer from a powerstroke adapted, it would be interesting to see what results could be achieved with variable timing, volumn, and multiple injections per stroke on an IDI...
I'm going to side with Phy on this one. Its really not worth your time, effort, or money to try this on an almost 30 year old engine design. If you have the time and money to burn, sure anything is possible. This just doesn't seem to be a project thats worthwhile in the long run.
It is a cool idea though.
Now you could probably hook up a motor to control the external torque screw (aka "smoke" screw) but I'm not entirely sure how thats done, and I think banks or hypermax made some sort of smoke eliminator thingy to do that already.
If i understand it right, tecgod, you're talking about the smoke puff eliminator.
That is basically a diaphragm that keeps the fuel lever from opening all the way until you have x psi of boost. I think it replaces the top cover and works on the governer lever, sort of like the FSS pushes that lever to no fuel to shut down the engine.
