Flex Fuel vs Ecoboost

I am looking at purchasing a 2014 F150 XLT 4WD super cab that has the 3.7L V6 Flex Fuel engine. I am unfamiliar with the Flex Fuel engine and wondered what's preferred: the Flex Fuel or Ecoboost and what are the draw backs of each? I appreciate any information I can get.

I think that all engines now are flex fuel. The flex fuel just means that you can run crappy corn fuel in the truck up to e-85 they now have E-15 which I have used in the truck if I am going to run through a tank. The E-85 gives you less power and mileage per gallon the only reason we have it is because of a our lawmakers wanted to get reelected and bent over.

I believe all EB motors are not Flex Fuel compliant. The 6.2 used to not be flex fuel compliant but may be now.

All Eboost are non e85 and non e15. i have always run 91 no ethanol or 93 in mine. and it is tuned- mild tune for 91+ oct.

130K miles and still running great. with regular plug changes at 20K mile intervals.

depending on what you are going to use the truck for. the 3.7 engine is fine. but they do like fuel when loaded down.

It depends on what your plans for the truck are.

The 3.7l is the baby engine and good for daily driving and only occasional need to haul/tow. It will get the best gas mileage out of any of the engines for that year.

The 3.5l was designed to tow and haul stuff but still be an ok daily driver. It was made to get better gas mileage than the 6.2l (which it slightly does but not significant) and still have the same power and towing capabilities. A lot of people will compare it to the 5.0 but it really wasn't made to replace the 5.0, it was made to replace the 6.2l.

Also the ecoboost is 0% up to a max of 15% ethanol capable, at least in the 2014 models.

6.2 in the super duty was always Flex Fuel, but not in the F-150.

I said I would never get another F-150 when they came out with the 87, hated the way the headlights looked (ended up with an 87 F-250) and then said the same thing when the 1997 F-150 came out and ended up with a 2003. I quit saying that.
