Ok, here we go. I have a factory turbo 7.3 94 IDI F350. From the beginning, I have been EXTREMELY dissapointed with her power. JoeFidy 350 and I have done things to help, but its sad.
Now, my older brother has a 2008 F350. Its got a PUMPED 6.4, and I mean pumped. He can no longer pass smog. He's at 650hp and 1100 ft lbs right now.
So here we go. He wrecked his truck and his insurance "totalled" it.
He told me that I can have ANYTHING i want off of the truck. So, Id like to put that motor and tranny in my 94.
That's be a big project, I think...
Since that motor/trans was never in our body style, you may have issues with motor mounts, cross members, and engine bay space. Then there's the electrical system...
I'd post in the 6.4 forum and see if you can get the electrical & computer info...
it may be easier to repair the "totaled" '08.
how bad is it? is it truly totaled,or just beyond insurance cost to pay to have fixed totaled? the difference is often drastic especially with the labor costs these days.
them engines don't exactly get much for fuel economy either fyi. almost half of that of properly tuned idi.so there's much more cost to the thing than the expensive repair or swap.
the bigest think i can see is the wireing grab ever thing u can i mean everther think for head light to the tail light and in between and f250 u missed the point it wont pass cali law so theres no point to fixing it
i would have to agree with 250, id fix the 08 before id put a 6.4 in an old truck. its gunna cost you some serious bucks to make it run, and alot of fab work, electrical work and dozens of hours, but if you got the money time and really want to do it, hell go for it
i think joe is on the right path, with the smog tests, that would prob be pretty sweet after it was done, how bad is the damage, maybe just throw the cab on the 6.4 chassis?
California really sucks as a state..... all the red blooded Americans need to come back into the good states and we'll leave all the hippies an such there and any hippies in other states we can just ship them off to California and then give it a little push out to sea.... Missouri has smog inspections in St. Louis.... that's it the St. Louis area..... but the rest of the state where we all farm and work and use our trucks.... NO SMOG LAWS..... and yet we still have cleaner air than California..... wonder how that happens.... i know we don't have as many people as LA or California in general but we have alot more farm equipment and big diesel trucks running around than they do or at least we should.....
(smog cloud over LA)
(pic of Kansas City notice no smog cloud)
Disclaimer: I got nothing against any of you IDI guys who happen to live in California.....
Man I say go for it if you got the time and resources! I saw a video of an '86 (i think) F250 with a 6.0 PSD in it so I'm sure it can be done. I think it'll be bad *** and I want to see pics and videos when you're done!
oh how i could go on and on with more examples, and prices for fixes that far exceed what most any of us here payed for our entire trucks + all our mods! lol.
go ahead, look around the 6.4l section.it wont take you long to see what im saying lol.
i didn't even bother with finding good examples.those couple are just the first current page.
ever read about the regens and making oil threads over there? search for those.you'll like your idi's much more after that guys.
