remote controlled fuel limiter?

Would it be possible to hook up a small electric motor to the fuel limiter to remotely "Tune" your engine from the cab? It'd be like a tuning chip for IDIs!

x2 on the fuel screw, it spins while the engine is running, the only way to adjust fuel to the IP and engine itself is that little screw.

So, how is it adjusted when the engine is off if it is free spinning?

The fuel screw is not free spinning. It's inside the injection pump, on a shaft that rotates when the engine turns...

So make the motor rotate with the shaft? I'm really interested in engineering, and thought this would be a great project for my truck.

There isn't much room inside the pump, the screw is hard to turn, the electrical connections to the motor would be tough, and it's submerged in diesel fuel...

It'd be easier to just turn the fuel up, and consider half-throttle to be full-throttle unless more is needed. Then, if you have enough air to go with the extra fuel, and temps don't get too high, push your foot a little more...

I dont know, it just seems like such a great side project. But the new pump, have a buddy of mine prototype an extended IP cover, somehow make it all work, and have the coolest mod for the 7.3 ever made, except for maybe the ATS or banks turbo, of which I have the former.

Sorry, I apologize for the flippant remark... When I typed it, I didn't really mean to come off like that, but reading it now...

Hey, anything is possible, but this, I think, is way outside the realm of feasibility.
It'd be way easier to adapt a different mechanical IP that has an external fuel adjustment, or ditch the IP entirely and come up with an HEUI injector set-up like the powerstrokes.

Think it would be possible to retrofit an HEUI to the IDI? I heard thats one of the only major differences between the idi and the Powerstroke.

There might be HEUI injectors that would fit the heads, but I don't know. The powerstroke injectors wont.
As I understand it, International changed to DI from IDI because the in-direct injection pre-combustion chambers limited the gains that could be had from the HEUI system. Now, changing the heads & injector system could work, but then that's what the powerstroke is...

Well, considering that a Powerstroke is 3000 plus and it would be very unique to have a Powerstroke-IDI hybrid.
