94 E150, axle code 19 (standard, Ford, no limited slip). Don't have the owner's manual.
The Chiltons guide I just picked up says 94-up, "use a premium rear axle lubricant".Profanity Removed?? It lists 75w hypoid gear lube for earlier models.
Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .
I posted this somewhere, but forget which FTE section it was in, so... let me just say that I think you'll find that a switch to a full synthetic (Mobil 1 Gear Oil (or is it Mobil 1 75w-90?)) is worth the extra money.
I don't beat or race my truck, so I didn't notice anything until I took it on the 65 MPH highways. It accelerated easier and faster. Not a ton, mind you, but if you've got a stick and you're in-tune with the way your truck handles hills & such, I think you'll notice the difference.
My other recomendation is to have one of those mechanic's magnets on the end of a telescoping rod, and to spend some time getting in to all the nooks and crannies to pull out metalic particles. I had a good amount in there.
And don't forget to clean the filler-plug's magnet.
Just be careful, synthetic will probably leak from the seals.

Hey, if someone has seal leakage then they have seal leakage. It's not going to leak because of synthetic, but if you've got leaks - it will leak faster.
I know my 1993 was tight, and it reamins so (as has everything I put syntethic in over the years). The only leaking part was the cover's gasket, but of course that gets changed when one changes the differential fluid.
MustangGT221 , you proabably ought to change out your seals if that's a problem for ya.
Mine don't leak, but I've heard that if you use synthetic it has more of a tendency to leak on old seals, just letting the guy be aware, no big deal.

Went with the regular GL5 stuff. Actually I was about to buy everything at PepBoys, but I asked and they did the job for $34, so why buy $10 worth of gear oil and a gasket?
They used a suction pump, sucked out the old stuff, filled it up with the new stuff.
I was hoping it would quiet down the rear end some, but it still makes the same noise. Probably nothing will fix 193,000 miles worth of wear except new gears/bearings and so forth. Noth worth it in this case, as long as it doesn't blow up on the highway somewhere.
