Spline counts are the same, and I'm sure spline pitch is also the same, but the length is gonna be way different. IIRC even the stubs are different lengths, but I could be wrong.
They call it a D44 because all of the following are the same:
1.spline count
2.axle shaft dia
3.carriers
4.carrier bearings
5.ring and pinion
6.pinion bearings
7.lockouts
8.wheel bearings
9.ujoints
10.yokes
11.pinion nuts
Thank you so much for the info!!
The most important parts I need to know about are:
Spindle, caliper support, rotor, & hub
Are all of these '94 parts compatible with the '79 axle?
If my thinking is correct...
The bolt pattern off the knuckle is the same on both axles then the spindle and everything out from it on the 1994 axle can be installed on the 1979 axle, right?
Then I can use all of the 'knuckle-out' parts off of my 1994 axle to rebuild my 1979 axle, right?
It all boils down to the knuckle/spindle bolt pattern and splines, if they match up then I am set.
I'm 99% sure none of that will work. The 78/9 spindles are 5 bolt while the TTB is 6 bolt. And you can't put the 78/9 knuckles on the TTB arms because the ball joint spacing is different.
