transmission swap

I wanted to know if it was possible to swap a transmission from a 1983 F250 6.9l diesel 4x2 into a 1991 F250 7.5l 460 4x2 truck? Both trucks are automatic with overdrive and have regular cabs.

No, the IDI and 460 belhousing bolt patterns are close, but not close enough...

The 83 is not the original tranny if it's got overdrive....

Only auto behind these diesels up until 1989 was the 3 speed C6.

Unless I'm missing something, it looks like the OP is wanting a tranny that will go behind his 460. Nothing that fits a diesel is a direct bolt-in replacement though.
