Hi everyone, I picked up a 78' F-150 Custom Explorer 4x4. VIN # F14BLBCC632. It has a stock 2 bbl 75' car 400M swapped in it with a C6 trans, Np205 case, 9" rear and Dana 44 front. When we bought the truck the power steering fluid cap was missing, so we thought adding fluid and covering it up with tin foil would help the steering but it made little to no difference. Luckily we have connections with people at local auto parts stores so we got a pump and a box for pretty cheap. But after we installed all of it, it acts the same way it did before the new parts. It's tough to steer with the wheels on the ground, but if you jack up the front the wheels turn so easy you can steer it by pushing on the tires. Any idea whats wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
does the power steering work with it up in the air? sounds to me like your not getting enough pressure. does it make a difference if you give it some gas?
It works great with the front in the air, steers perfect. Haven't tried revving it a little to see if it works better, there is still some air in the system, like when you turn it off the fluid bubbles and rises towards the cap, but as soon as you start it all the fluid gets sucked back down.
