ive got a 78 f350 dually with what im sure has a 351/400m in it(based on pics ive found here)however when i check the vin decode it says its a 351 windsor.either way im good with what its got.next question is which is the better motor the 351m or the 400.thanks in advance.
Can you post up your full VIN? 351w was not at option so I'm curious to see now you are coming up with that.
The 351m and 400 are basically the same thing other than stroke. In my opinion, if you are going to have one or the other than you might as well go with the extra cubes.
Well that VIN isn't coming up as a good VIN for me on the site decoder but I can tell you the 4th digit being an "H" is a 351m. Same as what my 1977 had.
The Cleveland was discontinued from Ford truck use after 1974. You are correct you have a 351, it is 351 modified. Also known as the 351m. I also confirmed this with my literature and it confirmed it.
I have both engines, and they are impossible to differentiate between them, as they only differ in stroke.
I'm not sure that M means Modified I thought it was MILAN,MI as C is to Clevland OHIO, asW is to winsor Onterio Just my thought, If Im wrong it want be the first time

Ford never disclosed what the "M" stood for, despite all the rumors. To this day no one has been able to produce any actual Ford literature stating otherwise.
