Won't start in park?

Hey everyone I have a 2001 F-250 PSD. My truck will not start in Park. I have to switch it to Neutral to fire it up. The past month a couple of times, I have had to wiggle the shifter to fire it up but now nothing. Any Ideas. Shift controller? And how do I get to that. Thanks Jason

there is a couple torx head screws under the dash, stick ur head between the gs and brake and look up, u will need a flashlight, i cant remeber how big they are or how many there was but when you find them, tighten em up and u will be set, watch youself now, this happened to my buddy and whats happening is your truck is NOT engaging in park, so be carefull!

theres a switch in the column that allows the truck to be started in P or N. it is either faulty or needs to be adjusted.

Tried the Torx screws and they are all tight. The shifter is a little sloppy. Any other ideas? I see there is an adjustable cable that runs to the shifter. Don't really want to mess with that when I dont know what it is. Thanks Jason

I think the cable is for the lil marker that shows what gear you are in. I'm not exactly sure what the switch looks like but I'm pretty sure it's in there somewhere!

What switch are you talking about?

If you're referring to the MLPS switch,it's on the transmission.

That's the only switch that signals what gear you select.

WIll it crank but not start? If you lay down on the drivers side and look on the side of the transmission there should be a mechanism on the side of the transmission. This should be the problem, all i did was wiggle the wires and mine started working and has worked fine since early November.

Ray it will not crank. Will fire up in neutral. I will check under the truck and see what I can find. It has to be some sort of sensor that acknowledges it is in park or neut to start. Just dont know where the heck it is. OBVIOUSLY right? Thanks again for the info. J

I thought there was a multi-switch or something that handled the gear selector as well as the turn signal stalk. But I'm probably wrong so don't quote me.

Well i checked the only thing that looked like a sensor/switch housing on the transmission. Played with it and no luck. I may have to get it checked out and get the part and replace it. Ill keep on checking around for any more info. When I find out Ill post it up.

Thanks 12ozd. I didn't know what a MLPS was so I researched it. Can I realign or calibrate those or should I just buy a new one. I found a few threads but they were forums for older trucks 90's. Has the technology changed since then till 2001? Thanks again
