Manly movies
What constitutes the manly/ guy movie? As opposed to the "chick flick?"
Well, it involves quite a few aspects that appeal to the man's senses, including but not entirely limited to:
1- Violence. There MUST be the dominance factor. ie. kickin' butt.
2- Female adoration/respect. The female must know her "place".
3- Sex. Whether visual or implied. Female nudity included in this one.
4- Respect from your male "peers". Earned of course, not sniveling.
and last but not least, that 1st and foremost, innnermost desire, of all males
5- "to win a desperate battle against incredible odds".
Therefore, I submit to you gentleman, my vote for the quintessential "guy" movie....
"The Thirteenth Warrior".
While Antonio Banderas couldn't act his way out of paper bag, the story is excellent, the other actors do a great job, and it includes every aspect that appeals to the man's senses.
I know it's an old movie now, but I've not seen anything that comes as close to being "the real mccoy".
Not my favorite movie BTW, just the best "guy" movie.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Oct-02 AT 10:42 PM (EST)]I can hear the boos and hisses already. But:
Army of Darkness. If that ain't a guy movie - well just shoot me.
The Matrix
Any Clint Eastwood movie
Almost any John Wayne movie
I dislike Robert Redford but the one where the Indians make it a point to take him out after they killed his family. Now I remember, Jerehmia Johnson (sp).
Scent of a Woman, yes I know this is a reach but when he goes off at the end, I thought it was priceless. Besides he drives a Ferrari.
Bat 21 - that one makes my blood flow.
Yes, I agree with some of the above. But what really gets it for me is a movie with some or all the above elements but with a factual story line. Some of my favorite war time guy movies are,
Black Hawk Down
We Were Soldiers
The Big Red One
The Longest Day
Saving Private Rayan
Patton
The Great Escape
Midway
The Sands of Hiro Jima
The Patriot

all good war movies, but you forgot Full Metal Jacket (I liked it), prolly the most contoversial movie ever made.
Pearl habor was a great movie, but at times it was bordering on the mushy side.
