Escape From Alcatraz

I wathced a great movie today: Escape From Alcatraz. Clint Eastwood, made, pshew, I guess in the early to mid-80's would be my guess.

Excellent movie, in my opinion. True suspense thriller. If you ever get the chance, give it a watch.

Anybody else ever see that movie?

Sure did. Fine movie. A Clint the Man classic, although not even close to the Outlaw Josey Wales caliber though. I just wish it had not been so dark all the time in his prison flick. .

What was the movie with Sean Connery about Alcatraz?

Anyone remember it?

Wolf, I believe you are referring to a movie called "The Rock." But maybe there is a different one.......

That was "The Rock", another of my favorites.

Also starring Nicolas Cage, Ed Harris, and the ever-present what's-his-face.

Saw "Escape From Alcatraz" and "The Rock".

Both very good movies.

Another good movie was "Birdman of Alcatraz"; (1962)

I see Alcatraz all the time.

I remember when the Native American Indians took over Alcatraz Island from 1969 to 1971.

Here's a cool site on Alcatraz:

What about that one Dirty Harry movie? They kidnapped the mayor and held him on Alcatraz. Cant remember the name. Tyne Daly from Cagney and Lacy was his partner. The Rock was a great flick. Escape From Alcatraz was great too. They are all bad guys but you root for them anyway.

If any of you ever get to SF, the Alcatraz tour is worth including on your trip. They even talk about the movie and show you the cells where it was filmed.

I was working the Dickens Faire at Pier 45 when they were filming The Rock. There are a couple of big warehouses end-to-end on the pier, and the Dickens Faire was in one of them and the The Rock prodution company was in the other. I checked out some of the cars they used in the flick, and saw Connery's dressing trailer. Didn't see him, though.

One of my all time favorite movies is "One Flew Over The Cookoo's Nest" with Jack Nicholson.

That movie is "The Enforcer" (1976)

If you ever want the name or information about a particular movie... then check out dvdempire.com - it's a great place to search for movie specifics, such as year filmed, cast, synopsis, etc.

The Enforcer - The third installment in the Dirty Harry foursome.

Escape from Alcatraz was based on an actual escape, if I remember correctly.
Great movie!

Great movie!
You're correct.

It was based on the escape of Frank Morris and the Anglin Brothers.

I vaguely remember hearing about it when I was a kid.

I remember thinking hope he doesn't come knocking on my front door.
