My dash pad is all cracked up. Has anyone tried to recover their own or fill the cracks? I was thinking i might be able to fill the cracks and lightly coat the top , sand it all down and paint it.
Good luck, I've heard of people repairing them to some limited degree. The problem is, if they are cracked, the material is usually damaged and brittle on the whole dash pad. I'd hate to see you pull all that work and then have it crack in other spots. That is my 2 cents on it. I purchased a excellent condition black one from a guy parting out a '79. Maybe this is your best bet, find something on craigslist. Post a couple want ads. Mine was under $20.
There was a thread just last week about this, and was successfull at recovering his pad. Sorry I can't remember the name of the thread but search dashpad and it should come up...
I was thinking of doing the same thing in a couple weeks from now. I am going to try use fiberglass (never used it before) to make a cover/cap and then wrap some vinyl material over it. If I do I will post some pics, let me know how yours turns out, whatever you decide to do.
I seen a few pics from another post and the guy mentioned Your Auto Trim Store. I have never ordered anything from them yet nor trying to endorse. But plan on it for my dash, custom door panels and headliner.
