I have a 1981 Ford F100 The dash is worn down to bare plastic, holes in it where someone put switches in it. I have the whole dash out.
1.What Coating or Material Could I put over it?
2. The dash pad is cracked, can i have it reskinned?
3. How much would a used dash be? (just the dash base not the bezels, gauges etc)
I dont know what you are planning on doing with it but maybe you could look into getting that walmart rhino line stuff and giving it that type of look. Hope this helps.
Nice padded dash tops will run you at least $70 on ebay, if you hang out there and hunt. Somebody makes an aftermarket cap that goes over the old top. Being I'm "strictly stock", that wouldn't be a way I'd go.
are you talking about the black plastic surround that goes all around you gauges?
If so fiberglass would probably be your best bet (besides hitting the junkyards and finding a decent one).
You can buy Bondo "Hair" that is fiberglass resin with matting already shreaded into it. It'll cover a 1" hole unsupported.
As for the cracked dashpad, i've used fiberglass to fix that as well. I cut the crack into a V and then filled it in. I sanded it all out, then sanded the whole pad out and painted it using vinyl paint. It turned out pretty well and as far as i know is still holding (sold that truck about 5 years ago).
