Edge CTS vs SGII

Besides some of the use of the SGII, I am thinking of getting a Edge CTS, with back up camera, EGT sensor, and turbo timer (so I don't fry the turbo). I have used the SG II on my previous truck 02 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, but now I have a 04 F350 SD V8 6.0L Diesel, some of the guages work fine on the SGII, but I looked at the Edge CTS since you can add on the EGR sensor (since it sounds like with 04 you can't read it with a SGII). For the most part I won't be using the CTS to change the performance, but using it for viewing guages and setting alarms for certain critical items that can over heat (EGT, EOT, ECT and so forth). Has anyone every used the CTS so I don't waste my money on something that could be useless.

I use the CTS and I love it. It's expandability is great and I like the gauge format. You wont be able to change the performance of your vehicle with the CTS alone as it is only a monitor and not a programmer. You wont be sorry with that choice.

A word of caution however, I take mine off the mount when I park and leave the truck as I have had one stolen already, right out of my driveway at home in the middle of the day! My fault I suppose, my truck wasn't locked. Been here for 34 years and never a problem but we live in a different world now days.

Everything I have read here has been very positive on the Edge CTS. If you do go that route, go all the way and get the fuel pressure also. Since you are getting the expandable system.

There were some bugs with getting them to connect right, but I think it was more operator error than anything else.

Is the turbo timer a separate thing? I have never felt that I would need one. I cruise the parking lot when I go to town to cool it down. ( Gives me a good excuse to stop and let people cross the drive from the store to lot) When pulling heavy and I know it has gotten warm, I just let it idle down a few minutes.

Can't tell you where to shop, but you will enjoy it. As with any gauge system, you will watch it like a hawk the first, oh I don't know, few years!!!

As far as fuel pressure, I will have to check for that setting. With the turbo timer, by what I've heard and read, most people go with the timer that after a time they set it will turn the vehicle off, but of course your EGT may still be in the hot/mid range and not in the area were its best to turn off, but with either the turbo timer or the other attatchment I have read about that isn't EDGE product which is hard wired to the ignition and EGT line, it read the tempature on the EGT and when it gets to the "cool" range it will shut the vehicle off, you can always turn the vehicle off by hitting the service brake. With the EDGE turbo timer with the many attachments you can add on to EDGE CTS instead of making extra holes in your firewall you will only have that one which is a plus. I like that option versus adding extra holes in the firewall thats why I'm rally looking at the EDGE products. I will let you know once I get everything

Edge has an adapter for fuel pressure, you will need to install it. Like you will need to install the EGT probe in the manifold.

Well I know a shop near the house that also sells EDGE products and even installs them, I will of course need to find there new location since they moved, but they worked on my previous truck, and they did a excellent job. They were a down to earth business they help out as much as possible and assisted even on stuff they didn't install.

I have the CTS, but top add the fuel pressure gauge, the $350 for the sending unit and universal pigtail was too much when I can get an Autometer for $200 shipped. On the dispaly, I prefer the 3 analog + 2 digital gauge setup on the CTS, so once I pull up ECT/EOT and TFT on the gagues, that leaves batt volt, FICM volt, and boost to choose between for the other two, not even counting the EGT and fuel press add-ons. I wish Edge would give you more options, like ditching the "Power Level I" and "Main Menu" buttons that are useless (to me, since I don't have the power chip) and putting in 2 more of the small digital gauges while keeping the 3 sweep analog style ones, or having just two sweep gagues with 4 or 6 digital gauges, or having 4 sweep gagues.

I'm probably going to order that Autometer Fuel pressure gauge here pretty soon, I'm pricing that and the EGT. I love the CTS, but Edge could do a lot by giving more options about how to show stuff on the screen, I bought the touch thinking there'd be more customization, but no joy on that.

EDIT: Sidenote, I use the windshield mount, and I never leave it on it, so having more cables running to it for the add-ons would just make it harder to remove. I refuse to leave a $400 black box of electronics on the dash in 105* heat in the summer, if I put up the sunscreens it might fry the thing, plus with how easy it is to break into a SD, theft is a big problem. I've toyed with the idea of screwing the windshield mount somewhere into the lower dash, but I haven't found a place that it won't be in the way or get knocked over with a knee yet.

The fuel pressure add-on is ridiculous, I am trying out another haltech sensor that is 1/3 of the price of the sensor Edge sells, and I am pretty confident that it will work as they use a standard 3 wire, 5v 100 psi fuel sensor. Any sensor should work, just as any rear view camera should work, People have bought the 20 dollar ebay camera and it works rather than spreading the 150.00 on the EDGE camera. I dont see EDGE only allowing the use of the ISSPRO sensor. Should be any 5v 3 wire pressure sensor. The bad thing is that you still have to purchase the EAS accessory kit and the starter kit.
