Hi everyone. I recently purchased and 1994 Ford E250 extended van with 5.8 v8 engine. When i bought it i found that it had some steering problem - steering wheel have some free movement and car on a road is "drifting".
So i bought a new all four inner and outer tie rods and had successfully myself replaced them. However steering wheel still have some play, so the problem probably in a steering gearbox. I bought one off advance auto parts for $110 with discount, but when i start replacing it i figured out that i can't change it because i can't remove pitman arm. Here is some photos:
So the problem is - i can't put Pitman Arm Puller on it because of the frame - it didn't let me put the puller all the way on it.I tried to use different tools to remove it but no luck.
Is any other ways i can remove the gearbox? If i will leave pitman arm the gearbox, just disassemble the inner tie rod - do i'm gonna be able to remove the gearbox itself? And then just go to a shop to let them remove arm from the gearbox? Since that i stop doing everything on a car and don't know what to do. Shop want to charge me about $300 for that job, so i want to put those money to repair something else on that van. Is any suggestions?
Thank you everyone in advance!
You might be able to unbolt the box and get enough movement to get the puller on if you don't want to break the arm loose, I know you don't want to ruin the greese seal cup with a fork.
