Not sure if its surge/flutter, or the wastegate not functioning correctly. Listening to videos, it sounds identical...whoosh,whoosh,whoosh sound, but its coming on at 12-13psi on a 6-7% grade hill, in 4th gear (manual), with rpms around 1800-ish, but if i dump it to 3rd, it'll pull around 16-18psi with the flutter.
Is it a wastegate problem ,or do i need a w.w./ats housing or van exhaust housing, to cure it?
i dont think u can add a van outlet to a f series turbo...i could be wrong...i installed a wicked wheel and still had the same flutter/surge as was described in trey's video. i didnt know it was surge, but i guess it was. i have since went to a van turbo, with stock wheel and have no surge at all. an ats housing will cure it from what i have read, and some say the WW does also...for me it didnt. i could get it to flutter in 80E and worse in 140A...for the price of the ats..you could get a van turbo and rebuild. i got mine from clay, but dont know if he still has any...give him a call
the turbo on my truck now, is one i rebuilt, since i popped my original one, with the w.w. in it, which NEVER surged, when towing my trailer. Yesterday was the first time towing with the new/rebuilt turbo, stock wheel, and sure enough, fluttered around 12psi....just ordered the XDP w.w. for 75 buks, shipped, cant beat that.
im sure if you would have called clay, he would have matched that or done better...hopefully it cures the surge. didnt know you already had a ww then changed to stock...y didnt u use your old ww in the rebuild?
lol...its in a million pieces, when the shaft let loose. i think i didnt install it right, when installing the stocker wheel, the shaft protruded through the "nut" on the wheel, about 3/16-1/4in, well, looking at the w.w. install, when i removed what was left, the "nut" was flush with the shaft....
Mine only fluttered when I went WOT and when boost peaked at 25psi. It seems to only happen at shift points or when I let off throttle. I never get any surge or flutter in normal driving, towing, or hill climbing.
funny thing is, uphill, no trailer, i can get 16/17psi, with no flutter, flatland, downhill..etc, at best can pull 14psi, with no flutter and no trailer. Yesterday/last night, was the first time towing with rebuilt turbo and stock wheel ,sure enough, pulled a little 6-7% hill ,and bam, fluttered at 12psi.

What up Clay! Around 16-1800, in 4th gear, somewhat lugging, yeah, so romped a little bit more to get boost going, and bam, the flutter began, dropped it to 3rd and was able to twist around 16/17psi, but flutter at those numbers too, which that rpms were around 23-2400.
Never did i experience this, with the w.w. in my old turbo
Damn Clay, didnt know you'd "price-match" on itmes. Someone in another thread posted XDP having sale, and saw the w.w for 75 buks. I'd thrown you my dough, if would've known. Just needed the wheel by next friday, since goin to desert for another race, and pulling ALOT bigger hills, then the ones i went through, last night and today.

No problem, we do price match on anything we can. Doesn't come up much because we try to maintain the lowest pricing all the time.
Haha I generally dont even compare prices. If its on Riffraff I pretty much assume its the best price I can get. And if not, the extra few dollars are paying for good customer service, and a beer for Clay. I'm ok with that.
