FE headers!

I cannot find any headers that will clear my oil pan and still fit in my 73 ½ ton 4wd! This is becoming increasingly stressful as i search and search and cant find any. I did find some from stans headers, but its quite a gamble as they will jip you with a 20% restock fee if they dont work. If anyone has(or knows anyone) these headers in their 73 ½ ton 4wd FE, id like to know. If anyone knows where to find SHORTY headers for the FE, it would solve lots of problems.

What Oil pan are you running. I have Dynomax headers on my 67 1/2 ton 4x4 with a rear sump OP and have no problems. I got them from www.summitracing.com They were cheap, just a bit over $100 and I have no problems with fitting, they fit perfect. Your 73 engine bay and chassis is the same as my 67.

I've put headers on both my 68 F100 2wd 390 (black jack headers) and my 73 F250 4x4 428 (hooker super comps) and never had a problem with the oil pan.

The 73 had the stock rear sump and now has the milodon 10qt rear sump and still clears with no problem.

The only real problem I've seen is with the auto tranny and the linkage, but then you only need to bend it about 1/2" over to clear.

Proeliator has Stan's and seems VERY happy with the fit, BBB has Sanderson shorties and even posted a picture on this forum once, maybe a search will find the pic ? And I've got to ask, what headers do you have that run into the oil pan ? ! I have seen interfearance on lots of things, but never the oilpan ! DF

You mentioned a 68 2wd, and a 73 3 quarter ton! There are many headers for those applications. I have a NINETEEN-SEVENTY-THREE HALF TON FOUR WHEEL DRIVE..... little bit harder to find headers for. I ordered the hedmans for it (only company i found for that application besides stans) and they would not clear my canton 8 quart rear sump.

I have never seen the rear sump Canton FE pan, so I don't know what it looks like. But I have seen the Stan's and the Sandersons on half ton 4x4 trucks, 75 and 76 if I remember. Those trucks have the same frame setup your 73 does. The 67-72 halfs are very similar, but the front frame rails might be a little closer together, headers for the older truck should fit as well. I know little about 4x4 (we have 2000 Ranger 4x4 so not much to know ,you twist the ****) but you should check with Ford Powertrain Applications, if they don't have your application listed, call them and they can probably do. I have had nothing but compliments on theirs from Exhaust Pros who did rest of system, Tranny shop, and other knowledgeable mechanics who have seen. And I tried 2 others (Dynojunk and Sanderson) before I got FPA. http://www.fordpowertrain.com/Headers.htm

Okay then, the short version: Yea, Stan has a set that will fit yours, yes they are the best I've ever run. Can't promise fit with that Canton pan though cuz I've never seen one. It would have to stick waaay out on the sides though for interference.
