Hey guys, I have a 1978 F150 with a 400M in it. It currently has a 2bbl idk what CFM carb on it now, I want to swap it out for a holly 4bbl dubble pumper. My friend has a few of them and is going to give me one. He has a 700,800 and 1100 CFM carbs. I Was planning on getting the 700 cus i think its about right. I heard that my engine likes the 600 so i was wondering if the 700 might be too much for it. Will there be any problems with a 700 on my truck?
You could take a 4 barrel and plug 3 of the bores and the 400 would still be overcarbed with the remaining 1 barrel.
No seriously, a Holley double pumper is a performance carb built for high horsepower, high revving engines and usually for lighter vehicles and stick shift.
What would be the best Brand and CFM carb for performance. I heard quadrajets have a good difference in bore sizes. 2 small for economy and quick response and two hella bigger bores when you stomp it. Should I get one of them?
Works great on my set-up. I had an Edelbrock 750 on it for a weekend trip to the beach and I couldn't tell any difference performance or mileage wise. So I went back to the 625...and I get 10mpg no matter what Im doing....55 or 75mph, 10mpg.
