Yesterday I took the truck in to get the transmission flushed. On their test drive it lost all oil pressure and stalled. They towed it back to the shop. There is no pressure to even fill the oil filter. IPR was pulled and cleaned without improvement. There is no visible leak.
The shop owner is a personal friend so this is just a bad coincidence. Any thoughts on this
it's a 2006. It has not had the STC or dummy plugs changed, but this is not only high pressure problem - there is no pressure. I am going to have those updated while they are in there.
It will have nothing to do with the HPOP, STC, or IPR if you don't have low pressure oil. Only the LPOP gears or the relief valve. I'd check the LPOP gears first, hopefully there isn't too much carnage.
I changed the oil 1500mi ago with Rotella T6 5W-40. I had a UOA that was all good except for some lead - they recommended a repeat in 5K mi. OEM filters only- I learned from the best.
The only recent trouble I had was electrical - a wire came loose on the accessory battery - caused some very low voltage but was repaired the same day.
No word on the gears yet - there was no noise - it just stalled.
I have heard of a leak being bad enough, right at the pump by either a really bad stc, or the ball coming out of the pump, to cause a loss of lpo. I would probably look at the lpo gears first though.
So it turns out it was an oil filter cap problem. Somewhere along the way (maybe prior owner) changed the filter cap. Anyway that caused the stock filter to not fit perfectly and become dislodged.
It is the same cap I always remember, but with it changed, everything works fine again.
They said it was a Wicks or wick filter and cap combo because the Ford caps often break or something like that. Any thoughts?
Yeah, that's apparently what happened, although I did not know the cap had been replaced. I have been using Motorcraft/Racor/Fram filters since I got the truck. One oil change was done with the headgaskets at Ford otherwise I did them all since I bought it. I think the cap must have been from the prior owner.

Friggin' sabotage!
Plastic cap taken off wrong or over tourqued will crack easy same stuff with the fuel fiter caps
